GOOD TO KNOW
How much soil do I need?
Multiply the bed length by width (in feet) and depth (converted from inches to feet). Divide cubic feet by 27 to get cubic yards. Add a small buffer for settling and uneven ground.
Example calculation
For a 12 × 6 ft bed at 6 inches deep, the calculation is 36 cubic feet, or about 1.33 cubic yards.
Tips for a better estimate
- Measure the actual usable space, not just the outer boundary.
- Double-check units and product packaging before ordering.
- Round purchases up where appropriate to avoid running short.
